200+ Cases of Successful Change

In 2015, I began a project to systematically study the very best examples I could find of successful change. I initially aimed for 100 cases. I soon found myself with well over 200.

They cover personal change, organizational change, and social change. They are success stories, failure stories, and cautionary tales.

The cases of successful change show us what to do and the tools we should use. The failure stories show us the opposite — what not to do, and the tools we should stop using. If there is one overall lesson, it is this: With the right tools, the change you crave is not just possible, it is probable.

We’ve Been Taught the Wrong Things

Across the 200+ cases of successful change, I’ve been struck by one thing in particular: across so many areas, we’ve been taught the wrong things. [the patterns.] The success stories teach us what works, the failure stories what doesn’t. The problem is we’ve been taught the wrong things.
